History
| Geek used to be a term that collectors hated. But now Geek is chic. The word has taken on new meaning - it now celebrates someone with excessive knowledge in a particular area. To today’s youth, being tabbed a Geek is cool thing - and some of today’s top stars are proudly calling themselves a GEEK to support the hobby. CARD GEEK is a new image campaign launched by the trading card industry to support America’s favorite and oldest hobby - trading card collecting. The campaign highlights high-profile athletes, entertainers and public personalities who believe card collecting is worth Geeking-out about. These celebrities have donated their time and likeness royalty free. The love collecting and they want you to as well. Launched in July of 2005, the Card Geek program is an industry-driven initiative designed to put the fun back into the hobby of collecting cards. Endorsed by BeckettMedia and F&W Publications on the publishing side, as well as all the major card manufacturers, including Donruss, Topps, UpperDeck and Press Pass, the Card Geek program has also garnered the support of NFL Players Inc, MLBPA, the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. Modeled after the highly successful “got milk?” campaign, the ads feature professional athletes and entertainers reflecting on trading cards that made an impact in their lives
