Carlos Guillen

Carlos Guillen was a free agent signing by the Houson Astros in 1992, but didn't see any action till after he was traded, along with Freddy Garcia, to the Seattle Mariners for Randy Johnson. Between his debut in 98 till 2000 he only played in about 100 games. As a free agent, Carlos signed with the Detroit Tigers 2004. Carlos managed to impress Tigers fans by making the All-Star team that same year. Carlos ended his 2004 season on the Disabled list with an ACL injury. 2004 was Guillens best year by far! He ended up with a .318 batting average, 20 Homeruns, and 97 RBIs; all career highs. Guillen continued the hitting domination in 2005 batting .320. But 2005 was another season where Guillen was on and off the DL. 2006 Marked the first year Carlos Guillen played in a Tigers uniform completely healthy. Guillen managed to play in 153 games, logging in 543 at bats. It was the most Guillen has played in his career. The amount of playing time didn't hurt Guillen at all. He batted a team high .320 with 19 homeruns and 85 RBIs. Guillen also lead the team with 20 steals. He caught fire after the All-Star break. Guillen was the best second half hitter in the Majors, hitting .375 after the All-Star Creak. He didn't stop there. He also had a great postseason in 2006; hitting .571 in the ALCS. After it was all said and done, Guillen was named the Tigers MVP of 2006. Guillen hasn't had a sub-300 season in Detroit yet. Tiger's manager Jim Leyland has also implied on many occasions that Carlos is the Tigers smartest hitter. This season is a contract year for Guillen, he will be a pretty big target in free agency. Unless of course the Tigers can get him to stay in Detroit.
