The White Stockings were the first MajorLeagueBaseball team in Chicago. They played their first season in 1870. They finished the 1976 season with a .778 winning percentage. They won 52 games and losing 14 games. They were in contention to win the division, but all of their equipment and even their stadium was burnt during the Great Chicago Fire in 1971. They finished the season 2 games behind the winner of the division. They team didn't play for 2 years due to the rebuilding of Chicago. In 1875 they got pitching great AlSpalding, and first baseman CapAnson. Meanwhile, WilliamHulbert was forming the NationalLeague. With a new team, the White Stockings went 55-14 in 1876. Jump to 1880, the White Stockings finished with a 67-17 record. That is a .798 winning percentage. Nowadays, you would need to win 129 games to get that high of a winning percentage. |
