Cleveland Municipal Stadium (1946-1995)

Tradition is such an important part of the Browns, so it’s important to note that ever since they were born in 1946, they have played on the same site on the shores of Lake Erie.

From 1946-95, their home was Cleveland Municipal Stadium. The Browns won all eight of their league championships there and hosted 17 postseason games. It is also where 15 men -- 14 players and one coach – built careers that eventually landed them in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Cleveland Browns Stadium (2001-present)

On that same footprint is Cleveland Browns Stadium, which was opened in 1999. To keep that tradition going, the playing field at Cleveland Browns Stadium runs east to west, just like it did before, and the Dawg Pound can still be found on the east side of the stadium.

But that tradition has been tweaked and enhanced with a myriad of modern amenities and conveniences that give Cleveland Browns Stadium the look and feel of a 21st century facility. It fits right in with its modern neighbors, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Great Lakes Science Center.

Architectural gaps in the seating bowl at Cleveland Browns Stadium at the Southeast and Southwest entrance plazas allow visitors to view the field and the inside of the facility even when the Browns aren’t playing. These gaps and the upper level bridges connecting the sideline and end zone seating also allow ticket holders to see the downtown skyline.

In addition, lighting has been specially designed to highlight the columns and beams supporting the upper deck topped by a halo of light glowing from the sideline canopies.

Day or night, game day or not, Cleveland Browns Stadium adds excitement and beauty to a city and fan base looking forward while at the same time honoring the past.

Regional Transit Authority, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Tomorrow.
* Team Shop is open from march through January, seven days a week.
* Scoreboards: Cleveland Browns Stadium features one of the largest and most capable video screens in any NFL Stadium.
- The Prostar VideoPlus display boards are located behind each end zone and measure approximately 27 feet high by 94 feet wide.
- They are capable of displaying in 16.7 million colors:
- live video and instant replays
- game information and player and team statistics
- advertising, graphics and animation
* Exterior Video boards: Two other ProStar boards are mounted on the outside of the Stadium.
- Measuring 90 feet long and 25 feet high they are the largest animated display boards in the city.
- They display time and temperature, major league scores and information 24 hours a day.

* Playing Field: The field is a Kentucky Bluegrass
- Irrigated field with a sand-soil root zone and an underground heating system.
- Heating System contains nine boilers and 40 miles of underground piping.
- The heating system will keep the field from freezing and extend the growing season of the turf.
* 12 ticket windows
* Restrooms: 41 women's, 32 men's and 12 family toilets. Fixtures include 900 toilets, 390 urinals and 200 sinks.
* Concession Stands: 41 permanent concession stands and 71 portable concession stands.
* The Browns locker room is 11,000 square feet
* Two visiting team locker rooms each being 5,600 square feet and one officials’ locker room at 1,600 square feet.
* Two Club Lounges located on the North (28,000 square feet) and South (30,000 square feet) sides of the Stadium.
* Stadium lighting - 592 fixtures, 528 1,500 watt conventional metal halide fixtures, 1,500 watt double-ended hot-restart fixtures.
* Footprint: 31 acre site.
* Facility Area: 1.64 million square feet.
* The Stadium is a concrete and glass structure. Precast concrete and cast in-place was used for upper concourse.
- Natural stone accents were used at the base of the Stadium.
* The concrete superstructure used more than 600 truckloads of concrete, which is equivalent to 60,000 yards.
* Field has been designed to accommodate international soccer as well, with dimensions of 69 yards by 114 yards.
* Stadium Dimensions: 933 feet wide, 695 feet long, 171 feet high.

The rich tradition of the Cleveland Browns boasts 15 members in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which is tied with Washington for fifth-highest total league-wide. Only the Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers claim more Hall of Famers.

Each fall since its inception in 2001, former Browns are inducted into Legends. To become a Legend, a player must have been on the Browns roster for a minimum of four seasons. The inductees are voted in by both a 10-member Legends panel (counting 80 percent of the total) and by fans in balloting on clevelandbrowns.com (20 percent). Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductees automatically gain entrance in to Legends.
