Guillaume Latendresse is expected to be the 'next big thing' by many fans of the MontrealCanadiens. He is a big scoring winger, who hails from the province of Quebec. He was drafted by the Canadiens in the second round (45th overall) of the 2005 NHLEntryDraft. At the time, he was playing for Drummondville of the QuebecMajorJuniorHockeyLeague.
Latendresse almost made the Canadiens out of his first NationalHockeyLeague training camp in 2005. He was a late cut, and when sent back to Jr, did not apply himself all that diligently. He was a member of Team Canada's gold medal team at the WorldJuniorHockeyChampionships, although he spent the majority of the time on the bench, as coach BrentSutter was not especially happy with his work ethic and conditioning.
In his second go-round at Canadiens training camp, Latendresse left no room for doubt, and made the Habs right out of the gate. He signed a three-year contract with the Canadiens in September. He has suited up for all the Canadiens games so far this season, but he remains eligible to go back to Drummondville if he cannot stick with the Habs.
