Autographs Through The Mail (TTM)

Collecting autographs TTM is a simple, inexpensive way to add to your collection. Many hockey players are excellent TTM signers. Hall of Famers and young stars are among the best signers, as they are very quick to reply.

Here are a few pointers for TTM autograph collecting:

• Never send anything TTM that is irreplaceable. Even if a player has been a consistent signer in the past, there is always the chance that you might not get your item back.
• Always include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your requests. The key is to make it as easy as possible for the player to return your cards to you after signing. No need for them to have to go digging around for an envelope and/or postage.
• Don't send too many items to be signed, 2-3 is plenty for any given player.
• Try to choose cards without excessively glossy finishes. If you want to get a glossy card signed, try removing the gloss carefully by gently rubbing the card with a white eraser or baby powder.
• Write a short, succinct letter to go with your requests. The player might not read it, but sometimes they do, and may respond to questions or special requests (personalizations, etc.)
• Don't bother sending cards in toploaders or soft sleeves. They might cause the autograph to smudge if the athlete replaces the card too quickly, or the athlete might sign the sleeve instead! In order to prevent cards from being bent, add a couple blank index cards on either side of the card - sometimes you will get a bonus autograph as well!
• There are many different items that are suitable for getting signed TTM. Trading cards are an obvious option, as well as 8x10 photos, programs, or jersey numbers. Some collectors also create CustomCards for players to sign TTM.
