Matt Carle, the winner of the 2006 HobeyBakerMemorialTrophy, played his collegiate hockey at Denver University. He signed with the SanJoseSharks after his junior season and began his NationalHockeyLeague career late in the 2005-2006 NHL season.

Due to the late start Carle got in the season, he remains eligible for the CalderMemorialTrophy as the NHL's top rookie in 2006-2007, and his official NHL rookie cards will be issued in 2006-2007 products.

After a strong start to the season, Carle struggled in December, and on January 2, 2007 he was sent down to the AHL.
