History
| If you plan on going to a race, check driver sites for an appearance page. Some drivers will sign autographs at their merchandise trailer, or at some other place near the track. One site to check out is driverappearances.com. But get to the track early, since most are now handing out a limited supply of autograph tickets when gates open, although a few will sign as much as they can for 30 minutes or an hour or so. If a driver is signing autographs with a bunch of people surrounding him, dont be afraid to be aggressive; kindly nudge yourself to the front of the group. Check driver websites for autograph requests. most if not all drivers have an address you can send an item to have signed. even some legends have them! I got a Richard Petty card autographed and sent back within weeks. I also got a Fred Lorenzen autographed photo back in about a week. He also personalized and dated it! But i sent a picture to Jeff Gordon 4 or 5 years ago and still havent gotten it back. jayski.com is a good place to find addresses too. Some drivers (kenny wallace is one) that sell autographed merchandise on their official website without charging any extra for the ink. Ernie Irvan's website (irvan.com) also has cool things signed for a low price. ebay has many autographs to bid for, but you should know how to tell the real from the fake. A jeff gordon autographed card selling for 1 dollar has a low chance of being authentic, so compare the price to the driver. also, check the merchandise. i once saw a dale earnhardt autograph for 20 bucks on a poster made after he died. My opinion, only buy stuff from ebay that has a certificate of authenticity (COA). A press pass CERTIFIED autographed card is garunteed authentic. Check websites of your local racetracks. some get a driver or 2 to come out for an autograph session, and sometimes, a group of drivers to race. some have a VIP dinner that you can buy tickets for (although they are rarely cheap). Last year, Buddy Baker, David Pearson, and Bobby Allison came to the county fair. Not often that I know of that drivers come to county fairs, but it is worth checking out. See if their is a website for the fair. Just in case you run into a driver on the street during race weekend, carry a sharpie with. I'm sure some drivers will be glad to sign something for you. I saw Sterling Marlin sitting at a hotel in Las Vegas and he signed a few things for us. Check malls and collectors shops to see if a driver is in town. Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota has had sterling marlin and kevin harvick, then another time had kyle and richard petty, john andretti and buckshot jones. NASCAR Speedpark tends to get drivers there every year. Kasey Kahne and Elliot Sadler were supposed to be at a couple of them this year. NEXTEL Cup Driver Addresses
