SummaryShort Biography and Information about Robin Yount.

Biography

The most storied player in the history of the Milwaukee Brewers franchise, Robin Yount was a Hall of Fame shortstop that played in the major leagues from 1974-1993 all with the Brewers. He was the 3rd overall pick by the Brewers in the 1973 Draft, broke into the big leagues at 18 after just one year in the Minor Leagues.

Robin Yount was a fierce competitor and was known as having a great glove although he only won 1 Gold Glove during his career. He won the AL MVP award in 1982 (at shortstop) and in 1989 in the outfield. Although his overall offensive numbers pale in comparison to the sluggers of today he was one of the best offensive players of his era. He compiled the most hits of any player in the 1980’s, finished with a career .285 batting average (while the rest of the league averaged .260) and 3142 hits.

The Brewers made their only World Series appearance with Yount at shortstop in 1982. But you can’t blame the World Series loss to the Cardinals on Yount. He had two 4 hit ballgames (Game 1 and Game 5) and hit .414 overall in the series with 3 doubles, a homerun and 6 RBI. Had the Brewers pulled out Game 7, Yount likely would have won the MVP award for the series.

Yount moved into centerfield in the 1985 season after a shoulder injury threatened to end his career. By moving into the outfield, he was able to put less stress on the shoulder and continue played another 8 years. He is one of only 5 players to win an MVP at multiple positions over their career (Hank Greenberg, Stan Musial, Hank Aaron, and Alex Rodriguez).
