SummarySet Collecting and its variations

Many collectors choose to focus on collecting complete sets of cards as issued by manufacturers throughout the years. These sets can provide an overview of the players in the league for the season, usually allow for a few rookie cards, and provide a nice timeline of players, teams, and uniforms if done over a period of time. Collecting the same set each season also provides a look into the way card designs have changed with time.

Some set collectors focus on a particular brand, and chase the same base set each year. Some collectors focus on putting together a MasterSet. Master sets usually include a copy of every card issued in the given set, including parallels and inserts. With the proliferation of 1/1 cards, this has become very difficult, but it is up to each collector to define their own tastes, so in some cases master sets could include everything except certain low-numbered cards.
