SummarySidney Crosby #87 PittsburghPenguins

Sidney Crosby arrived in the NHL for the 2005-2006 season with as much fanfare as any rookie in recent memory, and he didn't disappoint. Suiting up for the PittsburghPenguins, Crosby had the chance to play with MarioLemieux during his rookie season. After his stellar junior career with the RimouskiOceanic of the QMJHL, Crosby was clearly ready to move onto the next level, and he became the youngest player to ever score 100 points in his rookie season. In a normal season, this would have made him a lock for the CalderMemorialTrophy as the NHL's top rookie, but the NHL had one of the strongest rookie crops in years, and he was beaten out by fellow super-frosh AlexanderOvechkin for the award.

Crosby has some additional help on the ice for the 2006-2007 season, as Russian phenom EvgeniMalkin is now suiting up for the Pens.

In a game earlier this season (Oct. 12 vs the NewYorkRangers) Crosby, along with teammates JordanStaal and KrisLetang became the first trio of teenagers to each score a goal in a game in 24 years. Crosby assisted on the two other goals, which were the first career NHL goals for both Staal and Letang.

Crosby was the highest vote getter for the 2006-07 All-Star Game, and was the youngest player ever selected to start in the game since fan balloting was instituted. During the 2006-07 season, Crosby became the youngest player to record 200 points in the NHL as well. He also passed the 100 point plateau easily for his second straight 100 point campaign. He finished the season up as the NHL's leading scorer and led the Penguins to the playoffs. They lost in the first round to the OttawaSenators. On June 2, 2007, Crosby was awarded the ArtRossTrophy as the NHL's leading scorer. On June 14, 2007, at the annual NHL awards, Crosby was awarded the HartMemorialTrophy as the league's Most Valuable Player, and the LesterBPearsonAward as the Most Valuable Player, as selected by the NHLPA.

In the summer of 2007, Crosby came out with his own Reebok clothing line, featuring branded hockey equipment, as well as casual and athletic clothes. In Canada, sales of Crosby apparel were accompanied by a free set of hockey cards (2007 Upper Deck Sidney Crosby RBK Hockey]), which proved to be hot movers on the secondary market as well.

In the 2006-07 hockey card season, Crosby's cards were the hottest thing on the market. His best rookie card out of 2005 Upper Deck The Cup Hockey experienced some stunning sales, in the $5 000 - $10 000 range regularly. Perhaps his hottest card was his Young Guns rookie card out of 2005 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey, which sold consistently over $200, even though there are several thousand copies available. Even his base cards from 06/07 are quick movers at card shows.
