AlexanderOvechkin made his NHL debut in the 2005-2006 season, in a spectacular fashion scoring his first NHL goal in his first NHL game on opening night. The ColumbusBlueJackets were the victims in this case, but they would be the first of many teams, as Ovechkin scored 52 goals in his rookie season, and captured the CalderMemorialTrophy as the league's Top Rookie. Ovechkin scored one of the most memorable goals in NHL history against the PhoenixCoyotes, knocking the puck into the net while sliding on his back.
