                                        College Career

Cedric started all four years on the Texas Longhorns team. In his senor year, he received the Doak Walker award for best running back. He finished his college career with 5540 rushing yards. That ranks 6th in division 1A history, and second in school history next to RickeyWilliams. He was compared to Williams alot, they had almost identical builts, running style, and mostly, hair style. Benson cut off his dredlocks to try to make people think of him not as Rickey Williams, but as Cedric Benson.

                                        Professional Career

Benson was drafted 4th overall with the Bears number one pick. He went behind AlexSmith, RonnieBrown, and BraylonEdwards. Benson said he wouldn't hold out for a higher salary, which turned out to be false. He held out for 36 day. He is second on the Bears running back depthchart to ThomasJones. His best game in his rookie season was against the NewOlreansSaints. In that game he rushed for 80 yards on 16 carries. He also suffered a ligament strain that would put him on the sidelines for most of the remaining season. Benson was named the starter going into Pre-Season, but was demoted when he injured his shoulder in practice and had to sit out most of the Pre-Season.

Cedric was drafted by the LosAngelesDodgers in the 12th round of the 2001 Baseball Draft. He didn't play in the bigs, but played in there summer league.
