Kris Letang was drafted in the 3rd round (62nd overall) of the 2005 NHLEntryDraft by the PittsburghPenguins. He played for Canada at the 2006 WorldJuniorHockeyChampionships, helping the team to a gold medal. He played his junior hockey with Val d'Or of the QuebecMajorJuniorHockeyLeague.

Letang was considered a long-shot to make the Penguins in the 2006-2007 season, but a strong training camp earned him a spot, and he has not looked out of place on the Pens blue line this season. He scored his first NationalHockeyLeague goal against the NewYorkRangers. He joined with teammates JordanStaal and SidneyCrosby to be the first trio of teenagers in 24 years to score a goal in the same game.

Letang's official NHL rookie cards will be released in 2006-2007 UpperDeckHockey products. After starting the season with the Pens, Letang was sent back down to the QMJHL. Letang captained Canada to a second straight gold medal at the 2007 WJHC, where he was named as one of Canada's top players in the tournament, and also made the Tournament All-Star team.
