SummaryTwenty Dollar Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle

Designed and issued in 1907, this was the last Double Eagle issue. The 1933 Double Eagle was stopped by President Roosevelt's gold ban. Only a handful made it past the melting pots. For many years the coin was considered to be stolen U.S. Governtment property and any examples in private hands remained underground. The Smithsonian has one example on display. Only in recent years has the sale of privately owned examples been o.k.'ed by the U.S. Government.
