The SJHL is a 12 team Junior 'A' league. The 12 franchises have a 58 game regular season, followed by playoffs to determine the league champion, who is awarded the CredentialCup. Over the past 16 seasons, 10 different teams have won the legaue championship. The SJHL League Champions compete with the MJHL League Champions for the ANAVETCup. The winner of this series competes for the RoyalBankCup, which is awarded to the Junior 'A' Champion of Canada.

The SJHL has sent several players on to NHL careers, including RuslanFedotenko (TampaBayLightning), WillieMitchell (VancouverCanucks), and ChrisKunitz (AnaheimDucks).
