The superhero Superman made his debut in comics in 1938 in Actions Comics #1. The first Superman card set was issued in 1940 by Gum, Inc. Gum, Inc. became Bowman Gum. Topps issued a Superman set in 1965 based on the TV show starring George Reeves.

The first Superman movie was released in 1978. Topps realsed a new Superman set based on the movie. In 2006, Topps issued a brand new set based on the new movie. This set features autograph cards and memorabilia cards.
